…Lauds Gov. Mutfwang’s ‘outstanding initiatives towards economic and Infrastructural development’ despite rising terror attacks

The 105th General Church Council meeting of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, has ended in Jos, Plateau State with a call on the Federal Government and the various Labour Unions to “quickly resolve their issues in the best interest of the entire populace.”
Similarly, the denomination has commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his “outstanding initiative towards economic and infrastructural development” on the Plateau despite the escalating terrorist attacks in various communities of Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and other communities.
In an 18-point communique issued at the end of its 105th GCC meeting held at its headquarters in Jos, COCIN also condemned the recent attacks in Wase LGA of Plateau State and other communities in Kaduna, Benue, Katsina, Zamfara and South East among others.
COCIN also lamented the “constant economic inflation caused by the high fuel cost and many other infrastructural and policy factors resulting in severe hardship in the country,” and called on governments to provide more interventions that would alleviate the suffering and bring succour to Nigerians.
In the communique signed by the COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo and COCIN General Secretary, Rev Associate Prof. Benjamin Pokol, also bemoaned the incessant killings, human trafficking, rape, kidnapping, and attacks by terrorists in various communities across the nation and called on government s at all levels to step up in curbing the menace.
While making a case for displaced persons, the denomination called on government at all levels to revisit issues affecting IDPs and farmers to enable them to return to their ancestral lands taken over by the marauders.
On issues affecting the Church and members, the Council enjoined COCIN members to cultivate “personal altars, uphold a lifestyle of discipleship and be vigilant of false teachings in the pursuit of Holy Living.”
Reiterating the theme for 2024, the Church tasked its members who are into politics to be the light of Christ in their dealings urging them to “view political platforms as their unique mission field.”
Earlier in his remarks at the opening of the GCC meeting, COCIN President, Rev. Dr Amos Mohzo expressed worry over the proliferation of ministries and the emergence of false pastors within COCIN localities which according to him was leading to “spiritual havoc, confusion and disseminating diluted doctrine.”
On the state of the nation, the cleric said, “My beloved members of the General Church Council, it is with heavy hearts that we address the prevailing state of our dear nation, Nigeria.
“Despite the abundance that surrounds us, we find ourselves amidst a landscape of hardship and abject poverty.
“Religion, hope and unity have regrettably been manipulated into a tool of subjugation, division and marginalization, exacerbating the plight of the masses.
“Criminal elements are glorified and the wealthy wield undue influence, often through ill-gotten means, dictating the nation’s trajectory to the common man’s detriment.”
While calling on the government to “recalibrate its priorities and recommit to the welfare of all Nigerians,” the COCIN President said, “We must return to the drawing board as a nation, transcending faith, tribe and geography to forge a collective path forward rooted in righteousness, justice and mercy.”
