…Queries Abrupt End to Senate Public Hearing

Media professionals in Plateau State, under the banner of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have raised an alarm over the rising number of motorcycles in the state despite the ban on their operations by the Plateau State Government.
Rising from a congress of the State Council on Friday in Jos, the NUJ members expressed worry over the danger the influx of these motorcycle and tricycle riders posed to the peace and security of the state.
In a 5-point communique, the members of the pen profession and watch dogs of the society called on the state government to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on motorcycles and regulate the number of tricycles so as to stop their continued use to perpetrate criminal acts inimical to the growth of society.
Worried by rising cases of kidnapping in the state, the NUJ cited the recent gruesome murder of the special adviser to Benue State Governor on Security in the state as a case in point and called on security outfits to up the ante so as to nib the festering problem in the bud.
On the recent outbreak of cholera in some parts of the state, the Council urged the health authorities to rise up to the challenge to curb further spread and appealed to citizens to ensure proper hygiene, improve on sanitation and desist from open defecation.
The journalists also expressed concern over the abrupt ending of the recently held Senate Constitutional Review Committee Public Hearing in the state, which was originally slated for two days, but ended after a day. The NUJ members cautioned against rumour-peddling and advised citizens to shun acts that are harmful to the peace of the state.
