TEKAN Scribe Tasks Pastors on 2023 Polls

The General Secretary of Tarrayar Ekklisiyoyin Kristi A Nijeriya (TEKAN), Rev. Moses Ebuga, has advised Christians, especially the clergy, not to sell their rights or be involved in “ungodly political activities” in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.
The cleric said that it was sad that, as the political era and elections drew nearer, some would sell their dignity for a “plate of potage.”
The spiritual leader gave the advice in his goodwill message to delegates at the 101 General Church Council meeting of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, Plateau State.
He also called on parents to caution their children against getting involved in political thuggery.
The TEKAN scribe said “As children of God, we are not to be unruly or be found in any form of crime.
“Some politicians, use their money and influence to induce or seduce our children into immorality and drugs to use them as sex slaves or stooges to carry out their nefarious acts and disrupt political activities. Please warn our children not to be involved.”
While calling on the electorate, especially Christians, to come out en masse to vote God-fearing leaders who would lead the country in the right direction.
He tasked church leaders to collect their Permanent Voter Cards before the closing date adding, ensure that they cast their votes during the elections.
“Let us not sell our rights and mortgage the future of our children by selling our votes or PVCs no matter what and how much we are given. Let our conscience be alive to stand for the truth less the future generation would not forgive us.”
The cleric reminded the political class, that leadership is not a “Do or Die” affair as only God enthroned and dethroned leaders and enjoined them to “play by the rules and give peace, fairness, equity and justice a chance.”
The TEKAN GS called on government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the ongoing crisis “hitting hard on the education of our children and the education sector at large.”
According to him, this unhealthy situation was not speaking well about the nation’s image and reminded them that they were “stewards” who would give account of their stewardship before God.
“Above all, we need more prayers at such a time as this in the history of our nation. Today, Nigeria is bedeviled with banditry, terrorism, etc. ASUU strike, economic hardship, marginalization and many other vices on which the social media is awash with such happenings to the detriment of our nation and the Church is still having her fair share.”
The cleric lamented that kidnapping was becoming the quickest way of making money as terror continued to be unleashed on innocent Nigerians daily as a result of which people no longer slept with their eyes closed.
“Unfortunately, our security agents seem helpless in the face of these challenges; and the church seems confused too. But I am sure, God listens to the prayers of His servants, particularly when they do so in unity and love,” he stated.
Rev. Ebuga informed the delegates that TEKAN successfully hosted its 66th General Assembly in Gembu, Taraba State, from 12 to 17 January, 2022, adding that the 67 TEKAN General Assembly would be hosted by the Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria (CRCN) in Takum, Taraba State.
He also announced that the General Election of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), would hold in June this year in Abuja, adding that TEKAN/ECWA Bloc would assume the position of vice president for a five-year tenure after which it is expected to present a candidate for the CAN presidency as stipulated by the reviewed CAN Constitution.
While applauding COCIN’s to TEKAN, Rev. Ebuga acknowledged that it was exemplified by its contribution towards purchasing a vehicle for the office of the TEKAN General Secretary.
He also congratulated COCIN for the successful hosting of its 2022 Women Fellowship Biennial Convention in Gindiri.
