Gov. Masari Calls for Prayers from Christians

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has called on Christians in the state to continue praying and supporting his administration to succeed in his drive to provide good governance to the people.

The governor made this appeal while in audience with the ECWA Executive in his office at the Government House, in Katsina.

The governor said that Muslims and Christians in Katsina belongs to the same family living peacefully and contributing to the growth of the state, adding that ECWA had been contributing positively in the areas of education, healthcare delivery and the economic development of the state.

According to him, the state government had recognized the laudable contributions of the church in the state and appointed some ECWA members into sensitive positions where they were doing very well.

He said, “Governance is all about participation and indigenous Christians must not shy away from participating actively when it comes to electing those who’ll run the affairs of the state.”

He lamented that Christians in the state had developed an inferiority complex and always stand aloof during political activities and elections.

He disclosed that the ECWA community in the state was almost 100% indigenous and must boldly present themselves to be carried along politically.

On why  some  requests for land by Christians in the state for building churches were not approved, Gov. Masari disclosed that, government did not discriminate in approving lands for building but added, “it is not everywhere that people are allowed to build either church or mosque, but you see people buying houses in a purely residential areas and trying to turn them into worship centers and that is why when they come for the Certificate of Occupancy they’ll be denied and will start complaining.’’

He assured that, everyone is allowed to practice their faith and develop worship places without hindrance if they observe the relevant laws.

Earlier, ECWA President, Rev. (Dr) Stephen Baba Panya, said that they were in Katsina to thank the governor and government of the state for the supporting ECWA over the years.

Rev. Baba appealed to the governor to graciously approve the teaching of Christian Religious Knowledge in schools in the state as a way of fostering religious tolerance which would go a long way in instilling good morals and promote good behavior among Christian students.

He pledged the continued support and prayers of the church for the government and people of the state.

Prayers were said for the governor and the security challenges confronting the state.

The chairman Katsina South DCC, chairman and secretary Katsina DCC, senior special assistant to the governor on Christian Religion Affairs, and some top DCC officials, accompanied the ECWA Executive on the visit.
