Plateau State House of Assembly has tasked Gov. Simon Bako Lalong to expedite action on the formation of the Anti-Land Grabbing Board to facilitate the process of land recovery.
The lawmakers have also said that they will no longer condone any act of insecurity and killings in the Plateau stating that as an Arm of Government with the people at heart, they still stand with the people of the state and reassured of the House’s commitment to the course of the state and its heritage.
Addressing journalists in Jos, House Committee Chairman on Information and member representing Pankshin South in the State Assembly, Hon. Philip Dasun said “You may recall that the House of Assembly gave two weeks for the Governor to act on its resolutions on Security to address the insecurity challenges affecting the State at that particular time.
“We felt it is important as an organized institution; we have a duty to communicate back to the people of Plateau State the outcome of the resolution and of the present position of the Assembly.
“First, we thank God for the return of Peace in the State. We gave a six item resolution to the Executive Governor to act on within two weeks. He has so far been able to address five of the items remaining one that is ongoing.”
While applauding the citizens of the state for the confidence repose in the House by way of showing support and encouragement, Hon. Dasun also commended the youths in the state for “their doggedness and commitment to seeing that the conflict and trying moments are over and we also call on them to still have the will to stand for Plateau in all situations.”
The lawmakers reiterated that they remained resolute in support of the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba stating that their “loyalty to him is unshakable.”
Recalled that two weeks ago, the State Assembly gave Gov. Simon Lalong two weeks within which to act on a “six item resolution.”
At the time of this report, Gov. Lalong has so far addressed five of the items while the remaining one is ongoing.
Among the Resolutions earlier passed by the House was a to visit to Yelwa Zangam Community in Jos North and payment of the hospital bills of those affected in the conflict; visit to extend relief materials to the Rukuba Irigwe Community, Riyom, Bokkos and Mangu; address people of Plateau on the Security situation and show to people of Plateau renewed commitment. Others included improve the security situation in the State by engaging the advance security operatives; suspension of the planned ad-hoc teachers’ recruitment and to replace it with the Vigilante, and Local hunters and implementation of the Anti-Land Grabbing Law to enable those occupying illegal lands in Plateau to vacate such lands and native owners to take back their lands.
