The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) has called for an urgent review of the various economic policies of government so as to curb the severe hardships, especially the food crisis being experienced by Nigerians.
In a 15-point communique issued at the end of its 99th General Church Council meeting in Jos, Plateau State, which is its highest policy making organ, the church lamented the high rate of insecurity in the entire country and called on government to re-strategize by coming up with more effective methods to tackle the problem.
While calling on government to ensure the immediate release of all those in captivity particularly, Rev. Polycarp Zongo, Lilian Gyang, Grace Tuka, Alice Ngadah and Leah Sharibu, the COCIN leadership urged Nigerians especially its members, to be security conscious at all times by maintaining proper security networks in their communities.
On COVID-19 pandemic, the Council reiterated its call to members to strictly adhere to the protocols and admonished them to live in love in accordance with the theme of the year.
While stressing the need for support towards prayer, revival activities and discipleship programmes, the Council encouraged members to support mission and evangelism as it is the primary calling of every Christian.
The Council particularly thanked God for the various achievements recorded in the last one year including the successful ordination of more pastors, retirement service of the immediate past COCIN Vice President and the installation of a successor and the approval and issuance of License to the denomination for the full take-off of the Karl Kumm University by the National Universities Commission.
The Council congratulated the Board of Trustees, the Pro-Chancellor of Karl Kumm, Prof. Ochapa Onazi, and the recently appointed pioneer Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Nanven Gambo.
