The management of the Plateau State University, Bokkos, has handed over the sites for the construction of the General Studies, Laboratory/Studio for the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Academic Planning blocks to the contractors.
The official handing over, according to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yohanna Izam, is part of the institution’s quest towards providing adequate lecture halls for students of the university in compliance with the COVID-19 protocol of social distancing as part of efforts to guard against the spread of the virus.
Prof. Izam, while performing the formal ground breaking and handing over of the sites to different contractors in Bokkos, tasked the contractors to ensure timely completion and quality job as contained in the agreement documents, adding that the University will neither accept any sub-standard job nor pay variation in case of delay in the execution of the contracts.
The VC said the projects are significant to the growth and development of the University, particularly now that the world is facing a global challenge posed by Corona virus pandemic which health experts suggested social distancing as one of the safety measures against the spread of the virus; hence the need to provide adequate structures to enable the students adhere to the social distancing measure.
Prof. Izam appreciated the host communities for partnering with the management of the institution towards the growth and development of the University.
Also speaking the Saf Butura, Dr. John Gabriel Mallo, who was represented by Barrister Alfred Makwin, applauded the management of PLASU for transforming the University into a world class University within a short period of time adding that the surrounding communities are equally feeling the impact of the ongoing transformation in the university. He however, appealed to the contractors to engage both skilled and unskilled youth of the communities in as they embark on the construction.
On his part, the Youth Leader of Chikam Community, Mr. Mahanan Mabur applauded the management of PLASU for the giant strides being recorded in the university and solicited for sustained dialogue between the communities and the authorities of the University.
Responding on behalf of the contractors and consulting firms, Engr. Peter Amuta and Architect Danbaba Danyaro assured the management of PLASU of their readiness to adhere to contract specifications and timely completion and delivery of the projects.
The contracts, which are expected to be completed within 30 weeks from the day of the Ground-Breaking, are TETFund 2017/2018/2019 merged annual interventions which were awarded to Humble Rock Limited and Mibelle construction firms.
