Gov. Lalong Awards Scholarship to Student Who Scored 9 A1s in WAEC

…Celebrates Wife of First Chief of Air Staff at 79

It was a moment of excitement recently at the Little Rayfield in Jos, Plateau State, when Gov. Simon Bako Lalong played host to Miss Sylvia Ulan Andrew, an indigene of Plateau State who emerged the best in the recent West African School Certificate Examinations.

Miss Ulan, a student of Premier Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, who hails from Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, scored A1 in all the subjects she sat for during the examinations.

Ulan is said to have a history of record-breaking achievements, having emerged overall best at national common entrance examinations which earned her a scholarship by the Shell Petroleum Company.

Gov. Lalong congratulated her for the feat adding that he was not surprised because of the abundant talents available in the State and promised that the State will grant her scholarship to any University of her choice.

He praised her mother for raising her single-handedly since the death of her husband even before Ulan was born.

In his remarks, Plateau State Coordinator on SDGs, Mr. Sam Damla, who led the family to Government House, Little Rayfield, said the performance of the student once more showed the potentials that the people of Plateau State possess which must be harnessed.

Responding, Miss Sylvia Ulan thanked the governor for the reception and promised not to disappoint him and the people of Plateau State. She disclosed that her aspiration is to be a Chemical Engineer.

Meanwhile, Gov. Lalong has congratulated Mrs. Pauline Alao, wife of Nigeria’s first Chief of Air Staff, Col. Shittu Alao, who turned 79 recently.

In a congratulatory message, Governor Lalong, who is the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, described her as “a woman of substance who has maintained high sense of responsibility and diligence in her career, mentoring not only her children but many in society.”

According to him, Mrs. Alao had continued to devote her time and resources to assisting vulnerable persons in society, particularly widows to start businesses and provide for their children.

Said he: “Mrs. Alao remains a shining example for the support she gave her late husband when during his career in the Armed Forces when he became the first Chief of Air Staff. Her commitment, loyalty and devotion has remained exemplary as she maintains her faith in the Nigerian project by continuing to emphasize unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.” While wishing her good health, God’s divine protection and wisdom, he urged her to continue to avail the nation of her rich reservoir of knowledge and counsel.
