ECWA Women Task FG on Insecurity

The ECWA Women Fellowship International has tasked the Federal Government to address the security challenges bedeviling the nation so that Nigerians can once again freely move within and outside the country.

The women’s leader, Mrs. Miriam Philips, recently made the call in an address at this year’s week of prayer observed worldwide held at the ECWA International Headquarters Church, Jos.

She said: “Nigeria’s security had gone so bad, that one can hardly take a kilometer journey without being afraid of either been overtaken by Fulani herdsmen, bandits or kidnappers or be uncertain of what happened at home or anywhere due to the activities of these group of people in the society.’’

Mrs. Philips condemned the incessant attacks on Christians in Benue, Kaduna, Niger and Plateau states, describing them a persecution on the Church which members had been killed in large numbers and their houses and property burned.

On the recent happenings in the country and the COVID-19 pandemic, she reminded Christians that these were the end times as prophesied by the scriptures and advised parents to be good examples by living for the glory of God.

While flagging off the first phase of fund sourcing for the ECWA textile factory, Mrs. Philips explained that the project had reached advanced stage as the women had embraced the initiative which cost would run into billions of naira.

 The women’s leader praised Nigerian youth for the #ENDSARS protests, adding that there couldn’t have been a better time for them to demand for good governance than now that things had completely deteriorated and called on President Buhari to urgently address their grievances.

In a goodwill message, ECWA President, Rev. Dr. Stephen Panya Baba, commended the contributions of the women’s fellowship which had since keyed into the vision of the founding fathers of ECWA with regards to mission and development.

He disclosed that, the textile factory, when finally, operational, would operate as an equity investment and called on the women to buy the highest number of shares so that they could control appointments and employment.

He added that from the feasibility studies carried out about the prospects of the textile company, a huge market was already available as other denominations, Christian associations and individuals had indicated interest in patronizing the factory and urged ECWA members to make efforts towards ensuring its take-off on or before the second quarter of next year.

In a remark, the Director, ECWA Christian Education Department, Rev. Ishaku Yaro, expressed gratitude over the successful completion of this year’s week of prayer and enjoined the women to ensure that the lessons learned were put into use for righteous living and the advancement of Christ’s kingdom on earth.

The week was observed in ECWA churches worldwide with intercessory prayers, Bible studies and visits to orphanages, hospitals and correctional centers, among others.
