Plateau, Benue Genocides: ISWAP Controls 80 Communities – CRA

Our correspondent

A group operating under the banner of the Christian Rights Agenda (CRA) has alleged that the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) currently controls 80 communities.

The Christian advocacy group cautioned the Federal Government against adopting a “cosmetic approach” to addressing the situation.

In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Kallamu Musa Dikwa, CRA reported that preliminary field investigations reveal that over 80 communities have been overrun by Fulani terrorists.

It added that CRA officials have already been dispatched to conduct field operations in Benue, Plateau, and Borno States to gather firsthand information on the extent of the devastation suffered by Christians in these areas.

CRA described the ongoing attacks on communities in Benue and Plateau as genocides.

They expressed concern over the renewed terror attacks that have endangered the lives of Christians and other innocent Nigerians.

The organization noted, “There have been renewed attacks in Benue and Plateau over the last three weeks, claiming several lives and properties, and leaving many people homeless. These attacks appear to be well-coordinated and bear the hallmarks of terrorism from insurgent’s intent on fostering a regime of violence, religious intolerance, and total anarchy. This is unacceptable.”

The CRA emphasized that it is working to compile up-to-date data on the persecution faced by Nigerian Christians, particularly in northern Nigeria.

While commending President Bola Tinubu for his initiative to direct security operatives to increase their efforts, CRA stressed that such orders must extend beyond mere appearances.

They urged that these directives be enforced and that those who fail to comply be sanctioned as a deterrent to other potential saboteurs.

CRA also cautioned state governors against politicizing the recent killings and advised them to be “honourable enough to call a spade a spade.”
