We Won’t Be Intimidated by the Critic’s Attacks—Jos ECWA Seminary

Our reporter

The authorities of Jos ECWA Theological Seminary (JETS) have stated that the institution will not be intimidated by recent attacks from critics. Instead, it will remain committed to its evangelical theology and its mission to serve God in a lawful and loving manner.

In response to a series of YouTube videos containing defamatory statements about the school, JETS emphasized that it does not recognize the “self-appointed authority” of the critic and will not engage in a war of words. Rather, the seminary will focus on its core values, mission, vision, and mandate, which center around constructive building and public theology.

In a statement signed by the Provost of JETS, Rev. Prof. Sunday Bobai Agang and made available to newsmen in Jos, JETS said, “The attention of ECWA Theological Seminary, Jos (JETS), has been drawn to a series of YouTube videos wherein the institution is subjected to several cyberattacks and defamatory statements by a sponsored YouTube channel called “The True Christian Faith.”

JETS said that the criticism appears to stem from its decision to confer an Honorary Doctorate on Apostle Arome Osayi, describing such publications to be unjust, unfair, and unchristian.

Recall that during its 41st Annual Graduation Ceremony, JETS awarded Honorary Doctorate Degrees to six recipients, including Apostle Arome Osayi.

JETS stated that the decision to award Apostle Arome Osayi was made in accordance with its established traditions and due processes.

The statement continued, “We recognize that the critic has a history of cyberbullying and attacking the theological views of others, including well-known church leaders. JETS finds the critic’s approach to be reactive, unchristian, and unlawful.

“We affirm that the award of an Honorary Doctorate to Apostle Arome Osayi was carried out according to our established traditions and processes. His contributions to social action, advocacy, and church work make him a deserving recipient of this honor.

“We will not be intimidated by the critic’s attacks. We will continue to uphold our evangelical theology and remain committed to serving God in a lawful and loving manner. We stand by our actions, which are guided by our core values and mission.”
