COCIN Demands Review of Nigeria’s Security Architecture

The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) has advocated a comprehensive review of the country’s security architecture.

It has also advised the Federal Government to remain resolute in initiating policies and programs to ensure “national rebirth, built on integrity, truth and the fear of God.”

It has also enjoined the National Assembly to consider the rights of the citizens as it “deliberate on and amend the Electoral Act and other enactments.”

The Church also tasked security agencies in the country to intensify their efforts towards tackling what it tagged a “worrisome security impasse,” and re-echoed the call for Nigerians to be security sensitive and alert at all times by engaging in strategies of self-protection.

In a 19-point communique issued at the end of its 07^th General Church Council (GCC) meeting in Jos, Plateau State, the Church commended the efforts of the Federal and Plateau state governments towards improving the economy but observed that much more is needed to achieve the desired impact, considering the current hardship affecting many Nigerians.

The communique signed by the COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo and COCIN General Secretary, Rev. Associate Prof. Benjamin Pokol, condemned the incessant “unprovoked attacks by Fulani terrorists, whose mission is ethnic cleansing and land grabbing,” and commiserated with victims and communities who were attacked and killed by Fulani terrorists and bandits and prayed for God’s comfort.

COCIN also sympathized with the Plateau and the Federal Government over the demise of the former Minister of the FCT, Lt. General J.T Useni and the former Vice Chancellor of, the University of Jos and former Deputy Governor, Prof. Sonni Gwanle Tyoden.

While sympathizing with the Catholic Church on the death of the late Pope Francis, COCIN also rejoiced with the Church on the emergence of a new Pope.

The communique read in part, “At the end of its session, the General Church Council commiserates with the Families of communities who were attacked and killed by Fulani Terrorists and Bandits. Pray for God’s comfort.

“Mourns with the Catholic Church on the transition of the late Pope Francis and also rejoices on the emergence of its new Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV.”
