President Bola Tinubu has been advised to urgently prioritize the welfare of the people over political patronage.
A group called the League of Nigeria Columnists delivered this advice in a press statement signed by the National President, High Chief Tola Adeniyi, and Prof. Anthony Kila, National Secretary.
The group stated that it was essential for President Bola Tinubu to take significant measures to address the near collapse of the Nigerian state and restore the citizens’ confidence in both himself and his administration.
They urged President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on issues such as insecurity, food security, and the cost of governance to prevent the imminent collapse of the polity.
Also, the group recommended reducing the size of the Cabinet and abolishing the office of the “Minister of State or Junior Minister” to meet the Constitutional provision of one minister per state.
They also advocated for the scrapping of Constituency Allowances for National Assembly members, stating that such allowances should not be used for contracting purposes.
The group stressed the need to ensure the country’s security and safety from various threats and emphasized the importance of citizens’ trust and confidence in the leadership.
They highlighted the significance of improving the country’s production and productivity capacity, addressing issues such as electricity, insecurity, and policy inconsistencies to stabilize the economy.
The group expressed hope for the country to recover if the President prioritizes the welfare of the citizens and adheres to his commitments.
