Garki DCC has emerged winners of this year’s ECWA President’s Football tournament.
Held at the Zaria road stadium Jos, the Garki boys defeated their Bukuru DCC counterparts 1-0 to claim the giant trophy.
In the game of Volleyball, Kaduna South, Jos and Cham DCCs emerged first, second and third respectively.
In the third-place cracker, Jigawa DCC triumphed over Jos DCC with a 3-2 goals aggregate in a penalty shot out after a 1 all draw full time.
Highlights of the events were presentation of cheques, cash and awards to the winners.
Other, awards presented at the end of the weeklong event competition included the most valuable player in football which went to Macpee John of Bukuru DCC while the best goalkeeper award went to Dallo of Garki DCC.
The highest goal scorer award went to Ayuba Titus of Garki from DCC while Coach Jonathan Mocky from Cham DCC, went home with the best Coach award.
Similarly, in the game of volleyball, the best spiker award, best setter and best players awards went to Samuel Ogbonna of Jos DCC, Andrew Besbal of Kaduna DCC and Samuel Nitteh of Cham DCCs accordingly.
Earlier in his address, the outgoing ECWA President Rev. (Dr) Stephen Panya Baba thanked God for what he termed “an injury free competition,” describing the highest trophy in football as one of his parting gifts as he bows out of office as ECWA President.
According to him, the winners of giant cup were from his “ancestral constituency, Garki and coming at the same time am talking a bow out of office.”
The cleric stated that the reason behind the competition was to draw souls to the kingdom aside promoting unity within the body of Christ.

Earlier in his welcome address, Plateau State Director of Sports, Prof. Ezra Gunen, expressed joy with the decision of ECWA leadership to include sports in its curriculum
Acknowledging sports as a ministry, Prof. Gunen added that sports has the capacity to shape an individual’s character, emotions, morality, spirituality, mental and physical being and called on the Church to invest more in sporting activities as it is also a ministry.
