Shalom Youth Development Initiative Unveils New Discipleship Manual

A new discipleship manual has been unveiled by Shalom Youth Development Initiative (SYDI), a Jos-based non- profit and non-governmental organization working in the aspect of strengthening youth capacity for self-sustainability towards nation building.
The 32-page booklet titled “The Basic Things you need to know about Salvation,” attempts to answer very important questions with text from the Bible and offers a “simple, easy-to-grasp, biblical explanation of salvation.
The new manual also covers topics like freedom from sin, the assurance of an eternity with God, the relationship between faith and works and the meaning of grace among other related matters.
At the public launch of the new manual in Jos, Plateau State, Chief Executive Officer, Shalom Youth Development Initiative, Mr. Hezekiah Panye in his remarks said SYDI decided to focus on evangelizing and discipling the youth with the Word of God in view of the role they play in the life of the Church.
He added that SYDI was focusing on 5 thematic areas including evangelism through music and discipleship, peace building, health interventions in the area of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and malaria.
Other areas he added includes governance, psychosocial support including skill acquisition, entrepreneurship training and prevention of substance abuse.
On the vision and mission of the organization, Panye said, “We envision a society where youths’ capacity is strengthened and their activeness is channeled towards productive ventures.
“Our mission is to organize activities that leads young people to the saving grace of Jesus, and harnesses their potentials towards peace and development.”
He stated that SYDI had over the years operated based on self-sponsorship and had partnered with both local and international organisations in the implementation of projects in Plateau State in the key thematic areas of the organization.
Presenting the new discipleship manual, African Director SERVENOW, a US based non-profit organization working in Nigeria in partnership with SYDI, Rev. Dr. Simeon Havyarimana commended the efforts of SYDI for focusing on the youth population.
The cleric while unveiling the new manual described it as “a unique material that directs users into a personal relation with Jesus Christ.”
The event held at the COCIN Headquarters featured song rendition from the COCIN Choir Landyengre Kabong, Jos. There were goodwill messages from Rhema Hills Chapel, Jos, Plateau Youth Council (PYC), Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Forum and Faith-based NGOs Plateau State.
