“Nigeria is at a critical juncture with political dissatisfaction, economic hardships, judicial injustices and insecurity challenges posing significant threats to the well-being of the country and its people.”
These were the words of the President of Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, in his address to delegates at the opening of the ongoing 104th General Church Council (GCC) meeting in Jos, Plateau State.
The cleric said: “It is imperative that all stakeholders, both individuals and institutions, come together to address these challenges collectively. The call for divine intervention is a reminder of the situation’s urgency. Nigeria’s future relies on the commitment of its citizens to uphold justice, mercy and righteousness and to work collaboratively to build a better nation.”
Speaking on the current state of the nation, Rev. Mohzo stated that, the country had experienced prolonged political dissatisfaction and growing disillusionment among the populace adding that citizens were increasingly concerned about the country’s governance, transparency, and accountability.
According to him, the political turmoil has eroded trust in the system thereby heightening the urgency for reforms and improved governance.
On the prevailing economic hardship in the country, Mohzo said: “The economic challenges faced by the commoners in Nigeria are deeply concerning. Inflation, unemployment, and poverty rates have risen, making it difficult for individuals and families to meet their basic needs. The impact of these economic hardships is being acutely felt, and the need for sustainable economic policies is paramount.”
While calling for more urgent steps towards tackling insecurity in the country, the COCIN President stated that it requires concerted efforts from both government agencies and the citizenry.
He acknowledged that the church has a role to play in seeking the peace of the land through reconciliation, peace building and moral guidance in the society.
“Church leaders can provide a platform for dialogue and cooperation among diverse groups to promote national unity.”
