…Approves ‘Seeking the Peace of the Land’ as 2023 Theme

The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) has attributed the persistent insecurity across the country to lack of will power on the part of government to address the problem.
Similarly, the denomination has adopted ‘Seeking the Peace of the Land,’ taken from Jeremiah 29:7, as its 2023 theme as well as evangelism and mission and capacity building and social development as its focus for the coming year.
COCIN made this known in a 15-point communique signed by the COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Amos, and Rev. Associate Prof. Benjamin Pokol, the COCIN General Secretary, which was made available to newsmen at the end of the 102nd GCC meeting.
While calling on the government to wake up to their constitutional duty of protecting lives and property of its citizenry, COCIN called on members and other citizens to defend themselves within the ambits of the law.
While condemning the recent attacks on some villages in Bokkos, Knam and Wase LGAs of Plateau State and Gwagwalada in the FCT, COCIN commiserated with those who lost their property and loved ones in the various attacks
Commending the resilience and commitment of COCIN members towards the Karl Kumm University project, the Council expressed gratitude to God for the progress of work at the second campus of the institution located in Gindiri for the commencement of the 2022/2023 academic session and applauded the Board of Trustees, other stakeholders and the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Abdulrasheed and his Deputy, Prof. Chris Maiyaki, for their support towards making the university project a reality.
On the 2023 general elections, the Council enjoined COCIN members to fully participate in the electioneering process and “be pragmatic in electing credible, competent and visionary leaders.” It further called on the various levels of the Church to initiate political awareness amongst their members to be properly informed.
The Council also commended the COCIN foreign missionaries for their commitment and the progress of work recorded so far following the evaluation tour embarked upon by the COCIN leadership in September this year.
