We’re Still Living in Fear – Yelwa Zangam Residents as ECWA Donates Relief to Victims

Residents of Yelwa Zangam community in Jos North LGA have cried out that they are still living in constant fear of a possible attack.

Recalled that Yelwa Zangam recently came under a night attack that left 36 people dead.

According to the youth leader in the area, Mr. Yakubu Babuje, since the attack on their community, there’s no day that they don’t hear sounds of gun shots around the community thereby creating fear in them.

“We are still facing security threats and the host community lives in perpetual fear on daily basis.

“Our neighbours in Yelwa have been shooting guns at night on a daily basis. We don’t sleep in the night both men and women including children because of the sounds of guns.

“There is no any security stationed here since the unfortunate incident occurred. We are appealing to the government to station Mobile Police tent here before they built a base for them.’’

The youth leader made the disclosure while receiving the ECWA Executive led by the ECWA President, Rev. (Dr) Stephen Baba Panya who visited the IDP camp at Yelwa Zangam recently.

Earlier before the visit to the IDP camp, the ECWA leaders were at the Palace of the Ujah Anaguta to commiserate with the traditional ruler and the Anaguta nation where the ECWA President told the monarch that they were in his domain to identified with the people over the unfortunate incident that befall them and to also extend ECWA’s love to the affected victims by donating some relief materials to them.

The ECWA President informed the monarch that within t three months, ECWA had lost over 100 members as a result of attacks by suspected herdsmen in Irigwe and Zangam communities.

While calling on government and security agents to intensify effort in fishing out perpetrators and ensure they are made to face the law, the cleric said “If truly we’re seeking for lasting peace, then government and all the security agents must ensure justice, equity and fair play take center stage in prosecuting the perpetrators of such heinous crime in the communities of Irigwe and Yelwa  Zangam.’’

Rev. Baba reiterated that as church, ECWA would not condone any ungodly act against the good citizens of Nigeria irrespective of their religious differences as according to him, such acts are devilish.

He however, encouraged the people not to be deterred or be discouraged by the persecutions going on but to remain firm in the Lord and continue to live in peace with everyone and urged them to leave vengeance to God.

On the relief materials donated, the ECWA President said it is not only for ECWA members but every Christian affected during the assuring that the church will continue to stand in the gap for Christians facing persecution all over the world.

Responding, Ujah Anaguta, Pozoh Johnson Magaji, thanked the church for always standing by his people by identifying with the Anaguta nation especially in trying moments.

The monarch said “I am still shocked as to what led to the attack because I don’t know what the attackers want to achieve.’’

He stated that as one who believe in the power of prayers, he is optimistic that God will surely shame those behind the acts.

While thanking the ECWA leaders for the visit, said they “were highly comforted and strengthened by the visit,” and solicited for prayers for his chiefdom in order to succeed as he lead his subjects in the path of righteousness.

Items donated included bags of rice, maize, bundles of roofing sheet, cartons of roofing nails and clothing.
