The management of the University of Jos has announced the promotion of twenty-five academic staff to the rank of professor.
A statement released from the Information, Publications, Public Relations and Protocol Division of the university and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Mr. Abdullahi Abdullahi, indicated that the twenty-five academic staff promoted to the rank of professor were drawn from various fields.
The latest promotion exercise, the statement added, also included the elevation of 282 non-teaching staff of the university to various higher ranks.
For those to the rank of professors, the statement said the promotions were with effect from October 1, 2019, adding that it is the outcome of the of institution’s recent promotion exercise which were approved by the University’s Appointments and Promotion Committee (Senior Staff) at its 136th regular meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako.
Those promoted to the rank of Professor include: Dr. D. B. Bawa from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension; Dr. Ishaya Y. Longdet, of the Department of Biochemistry; Dr. Tolulope M. Ogboru from the Department of Commercial Law; Dr. Salome K. Kigbu of the Department of Private Law; Dr. Ojo Perpetua Odugbo, Department of Ophthalmology and Dr. Olukorede O. Adenuga, Department of Ophthalmology.
Others are Dr. Ademiju-Bepo Adeniran Kayode Moses from the Department of Theatre and Film Arts; Dr. Abdur-Rahman Lawal of the Department of Religious Studies; Dr. Momoh Grace Ohunene, Department of Educational Foundations and Dr. Damulak Obadiah Dapus from the Department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
Also promoted are Dr. Enighe Jeno-Mary from Arts Education Department; Dr. Mustapha Abbas Yusuf from Department of Educational Foundations; Dr. Gloria Olatunde Ojo from Department of Arts Education; Dr. Ali Ahmed Difa, Department of Plant Science Technology and Dr. Ogberohwo Enoh Pius, Department of Physics.
Others promoted to the Professorial rank include Dr. Momoh Abuh, Department of Geology; Dr. Yohanna Jael Asabe, Department of Zoology; Dr. Stephen Akinyemi Akintunde, Department of Library; Dr. Elemukan Sunday Isaiah, Department of Special Education & Rehabilitation Science; Dr. Bature Nakah Bitrus, Department of Economics and Dr. Chris Michael Kuju, Department of Foreign Languages. Dr. Ladi Nora Daduut, Department of Foreign Languages and Dr. Mathilda E. Banwat, Department of Community Medicine have also now been elevated to the rank of Full Chair.
